Peterborough Cathedral
With one of the most spectacular Cathedral West Fronts in the country, its three arches an extraordinary creation of medieval architecture, the interior could easily be an anticlimax, but it is not. The dramatic Romanesque interior is little altered since its completion 800 years ago. Highlights include the unique painted nave ceiling, elaborate fan vaulting in the ‘new’ building, Saxon carvings from an earlier church, elaborately carved Victorian Choir stalls and the burial place of two queens. An excellent exhibition tells the story of the Cathedral. Visit 'Beckets' for coffee or lunch and the Cathedral gift shop"
