Hang on – engineering in a cathedral?

Lincoln has been renowned for its engineering at least since the 19th century and in May Lincoln Cathedral will be the slightly unlikely setting for a celebration of Lincoln’s engineering heritage and present prowess.  Running through the Spring Bank Holiday weekend of 25 to 27 May the Cathedral will be filled with exhibits about Lincoln engineering. There will be links back into the agricultural origins of Lincoln’s mechanical engineering alongside cutting edge electronic and turbine technology. The event will include plenty of fun with interactive displays plus the finals of competitions for schools and apprentices.  A really fascinating experience and perhaps a welcome change of pace from the usual bank holiday events.  Much more about this at the Cathedral website.

Spring Bank Holiday in Hidden England

It’s only a few weeks to the Spring Bank Holiday, and Hidden England has some interesting events to attend.

If you are in the Stamford area there’s the wonderful Burghley Game and Country Fair on the Sunday and Monday featuring a whole host of country attractions and entertainment including a falconry village and equestrian demonstrations.  Whilst you’re in the Stamford area you could also pop in to the Field Dog Antiques Fair being held on the Stamford Meadows on the Sunday and Monday – you never know what delights you might find to add to your collection.  All the details and advance ticket booking for the Burghley Game and Country Fair on the Living Heritage website.

Further North, Doddington Hall has a whole programme of events to keep you busy over the bank holiday weekend.  On the Saturday Doddington’s Farm Shop will be celebrating summer fruits, and baking with fruit.  And on the Sunday and Monday you can attend the first ‘Doddington does Vintage’ event.  Described as ‘A fantastic vintage fair full of friendly stallholders selling their retro and collectable items’ you can expect to browse a carefully-chosen choice of goods, and find something unique and fabulous for yourself, your home or as a gift. There will also be vintage games in the Coach House’s private garden, a vintage-style tea party and a display of vintage cars.  Both the House & Gardens will be open on the Sunday and the Monday to complete your visit.  More details of all this, including opening times and admission costs, on the Doddington Hall website.
